Chiron [Kahy-Ron]. In Greek mythology, Chiron was one of the Centaurs, the son of the Titan Cronus and Philyra, an Oceanid or sea nymph, teacher of Achilles, Asclepius. Chiron lived at the foot of Mount Pelion in Thessaly. Unlike other Centaurs, who were violent and savage, Chiron was a wise and beneficent Centaur famous for his knowledge of medicine. Chiron is published annually by the Melbourne Medical School.

AVGD was engaged to design and develop the 2024 edition of Chiron following the updated University of Melbourne visual identity system. The scope of the project would include as deliverables a digital flip book publication hosted on the MDHS Faculty website, and a printed version which is sent out via mail and social media. The purpose of the publication is to position the University of Melbourne Medical School as a thought leader making an impact in health, while also building community and brand affinity with its alumni community.

The overarching design challenge and response was how to link the exsisting Chiron lock-up in with the new University of Melbourne design system.

A publication toolkit was developed to help inform the brand challenge, and provide guidance throughout the design process.

The principals of the ‘invisible Fibonacci grid’ have been applied on the cover to further reinforce the alumni impact imagery cover image.
